POLL: The 2012 Goal for Sporting KC – is it MLS Cup or Bust?

“I think now, with this stadium, with the talent and core group of guys we have returning, and adding individuals like [Bobby Convey, Paulo Nagamura and Jacob Peterson], make the playoffs has to be a no-brainer. We need to surpass that and get to the next level. The next level is winning the Eastern Conference championship and getting to the [MLS Cup] final.” -Sporting Kansas City technical director and head coach Peter Vermes, January 29, 2012

Quite simply put, Vermes understands that there is no time like the present to strive for the ultimate goal in Major League Soccer, and that returning 95 percent key contributors from an Eastern Conference final squad and making what he believes to be key off-season “missing pieces” acquisitions, he is nowhere near afraid to put all other MLS teams on high alert that Sporting KC are here to contend in 2012, and well into the future.

Vermes’ goal is clear. The tricky thing, though, is that with extremely high expectations often come extremely low disappointments. That said, have your say in the poll below.
